Accounting Nightmare at the FTC
Most government agencies cannot pass an audit of their expenses. I can vouch for that and have been a long-time advocate; that the government follow the same rules they force on business. Walk the Walk; In 1990 Bush Sr. signed The Chief Financial Officer's Act. The Act called for 14 cabinet level departments and 10 major agencies to appoint CFOs and try to emulate business and accounting standards used in publicly held corporations. The act and other financial reform legislation that followed, required that 24 agencies produce auditable Financial Statements. Guess what? In 2000 ten years after the act was the first year that all 24 agencies filed their statements on time. In 2002 there were 13 programs of 6 agencies with discrepancies of 20.7 Billion dollars. Those heads of those agencies should be prosecuted along with Arthur Anderson, the Shredders and any Enron people who are found guilty. The Justice Department has been unaudited or did not receive a clean opinion on their financial statements from 1996-2001. Don't you think they should get their own house in order before attacking business? I think so. These agencies waste money and haphazardly go about their business. Many feel they are crooks; read CFO Magazine March 2002 issue article entitled "FEDERAL OFFENSES." We are not making this up, this is unfortunate, but accurate stuff. Let's take the FTC for instance which amongst other things requires all franchise companies to have audited financial statements to prove their worthiness to consumers, yet their own agency cannot produce proof that they have their books in order. How dare such agencies wave their mighty flag at American Business who has built this great nations. How dare they condemn the only group who can bring us out of recession and maintain us after we emerge, how dare they hide behind their piles of BS and budget woes swept under the Justice Department logo'ed carpet and stacks of bogus paperwork. Is this the best the Federal Trade Commission can do? Is this the best they can offer as they label business people fraudsters and crooks? Is this the best they can do as they file lawsuits against the entrepreneurs of America? Well quite frankly this is just not good enough. Time to downsize; think about it? Children need education, to be sure, but they also need food, clothing, and shelter. The same poor or irresponsible parents who public-school apologists claim will not educate their children without compulsion, might not feed, clothe, or shelter them either. Federal Trade Commission Partnerships Questioned In many reports we see that the Federal Trade Commission has referenced the Better Business Bureau. It appears that the Federal Trade Commission is using this private business as an example and potential justification of their on-going rule making and regulation in many industry sectors and categories. Some feel that any association with the Better Business Bureau is bothersome in that if they are in constant alliance with the Federal Trade Commission then the Federal Trade Commission, is not watching their potential abuses or manipulations in the free market. A Workable Alternative to Term Limits The end of another election once again brings into focus the problem of Washington politicians raising money and running for re-election as soon as they get into office. Many citizens and various government-accountability advocacy groups have done little more than complain from time to time. However, some of them, along with many members of the media, have been pushing for term limits as a solution. But is that really the solution we need? Even with term limits, we would still be left with the same old problems, only in smaller doses, i.e., politicians would still be playing the same old campa igning and fund raising games for whatever amount of subsequent terms they are allowed. Also, we would still be stuck with the situation in which sitting Senators and Representatives (even those with no remaining terms for the office they hold) spend their time running for higher office. Chinese Military Build Up - Sun Tzu and Chinese War Machine We are currently seeing a build up in China of their military, with 7 new classes of warships. Buying of 15 Billion worth of jet fighters from Russia, advances in Space which can lead to Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles, Electromagnetic Weapons, training and recruiting of personal for army. Taiwan is extremely concerned as is Japan, Russia is thrilled having been able to sell them technologically advanced weaponry. Our defense industry is upset seeing sales go to other countries, also alarming in our trade deficit and money flows out of our country to China, which is being used to buy the weapons in the first place. Airbus is establishing a military division to catch some of that money flow too, having watched Boeing which also sells military and commercial make major end roads to markets thru R and D partially coming from US Government, which as we know has been a debate in the EU and fair trade rules as Airbus is funded in part and subsidized by European governments who are simultaneously deficit spending. The selling of weapons in the world is quite alarming and makes the case for Iranian or North Korea's nuclear weapon ambitions a tough one, in that shouldn't a country have the right to defend itself? A worthy debate although a government, which has proved untrustworthy in the past obviously should never be trusted with such destructive power which once used would surely change the history of mankind. Al-Qaida has Nukes Many believe Al-Qaida already has nukes in the United States and there is substantial reason to believe that they are nearly in place now. But how were they able to get them here in the first place? Thru our porous borders with Mexico, but did the International Terrorists have the bombs smuggled across Mexico border by MS-13 gangsters? An organization, which is growing at 200 new members per week with over an estimated 10,000 current members, sounds scary doesn't it? This is why Department of Homeland Security is so worried and you should be too. It might be a good idea to stock up on potassium iodide for your family's medicine cabinet now. It is not hard to get and not too expensive, but one would have to wager that supplies would run out fast in the case of a nuclear detonation or many simultaneous detonations at once. One large nuclear weapon strategically placed in a high-density area could kill millions of Americans.
