Freedom on the Internet
Throughout all recorded history on our lovely little planet, Earth's human beings have been concerned with a few main ideals. One of these is the idea of freedom. Freedom, what is it? What does it mean to you? To look at it simply and in context of communication, I'd say that it is the right to express oneself within certain moral boundaries. Recently I have discovered that the incredible tool of the Internet is being infected by some of our imperfect human beliefs (a sign of the perfect balance in Nature). Check out a website called 'Reporters Without Borders'. This site is dedicated to both freedom of speech for the masses as well as to the safety of the people who are trying to share true unadulterated stories with the wider community. In the site's Internet section I came across a new article about MSN Spaces, the blogging software from one of America's and the world's biggest companies, Microsoft. Well, it seems that in China they have agreed to have the words 'democracy' and 'Dalai Lama' completely rejected by the system, therefore censoring every on-line journal in China using this software. Looking at the Dalai Lama I don't get a feeling of hostile intent... This comes just after China announced that all blogs and websites have to be registered through the government's authority. After enquiring about how to put an independent blog on the Net a hopeful Chinese Internet user was told not to even bother trying to get back on the Net. The government now has real-time tools to 'watch' what people are saying at any given moment, and if you are deemed as writing something subversive you better watch your back, as you will be dubbed a cyber dissident. On the website they've got a list of a large number of these 'criminals' who have been imprisoned in many different countries. A court case begins today for a Chinese man who wrote some punk music lyrics on his site. He could be put away for a long time. I'm not joking here, there are a lot of people sitting in cells, many of which are put through all kinds of torture. I'm lucky I'm not in China or one of these other often-repressively ruled countries or I'd be called a dissident just for writing these controversial words. Look, I don't want to come across as judgmental but it is a known fact that many aspects of human society across all cultures have problems with their ethics and moral codes. I am just using China as an example because I am a great believer in the uniting, egalitarian power of the Internet. I have this strange feeling in my stomach that eventually oppressive ideologies will have to topple and fall as people become more informed about life's possibilities, and more connected to the true oneness of the world. Ironically, I believe the Internet is the means for all this to become a reality. Another incredible part of this site is all the information relating to reporters and the plights and ordeals they go through when attempting to share the truth, even losing their lives in the process. The Electronic Frontier Foundation, particularly its blogging section http://www.eff.org/bloggers/ is another site that is dedicated to freedom of speech for all people who want to express themselves on the Internet. Or check out the World Association of Newspapers http://www.wan-press.org/ who has a different perspective on current events, as they focus on what happens to the news bringers themselves. Are you a believer that one-day the world can come together as one? If you are, speak your mind; the Internet is a great place to share your point of view. Let everyone know how you feel about this situation. I have a Chinese friend who says that controlling 1.4 billion people isn't as easy as you might think and that the current system is functioning OK. OK is OK but I think it's about time humanity started to use a larger percentage of these huge brains we have. The first step is making sure that everyone gets their fair say, without fear of being pushed around by those few who often abuse the power they have been given. Jesse S. Somer Jesse S. Sweet Lies, The Aspartame Issue Aspartame activists are constantly being attacked because all data are a matter of public record from congressional records to government documents. Now there is even a movie, Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World (www.docworkers.com) that exposes how Don Rumsfeld got aspartame approved even though the FDA said no. Someone by the name of Nancy Markle put her name on a post I wrote about it, disorganized it somewhat, and a networker sent it around the world. Monsanto used front groups to try and say it was a hoax even though my invitation to speak was on www.dorway.com/nomarkle.html So many people got off aspartame and got well that Monsanto could not put out the fire and sold the NutraSweet Company. The story is in the book Politically Incorrect Nutrition by Michael Barbee. Because I was willing to put my phone number on the Internet there was no way for them to get away with it. Here is my published reply to the newspaper. America Needs Election Reform to Ensure Congressional Honesty America must implement a policy on Election Reform that is equitable and fair to everyone. It is something we must do if we are to be a progressive society, a society for everyone, rich or poor. We, the people of the United States of America, must take back control of our lives by taking back control of our government. And the only way we can do that - be a government by the people - is with a logical Election Reform Bill. It is past due because our elected officials are thinking only of their careers and their futures. As our representatives, the only thing they should be thinking about is doing what is right for the American people who are their employers. Monetary Flows, Consumer Debt, Policy, Trade Deficit and Reality America has some monetary issues, which need to be addressed. First consumer debt is at issue; the average consumer is upside down in their cars, over extended on credit card debt and living in a house, which they may have 10-15% equity and probably less with all these new home sales on 2-3% down and all the re-financing to pay off short term debt. Second; lets look at Wal-Mart; You buy a product there, 6% goes to the employee, 10% is profit to the company, 80% goes to re-stock or the cost of goods sold. Of the 80% about 20-25% goes to China. Now then how long will it take at 433 Billion dollars a year for China to have all of our money, leaving no money flow for us to circulate? Well if we keep putting money into our economy, it would take forever, but if we do not then eventually all the money flow will go. How Futuristic Is Anarchy As A Way To Organize The State (I) When organising a country or a group of people in need of structuring, people tend to automatically sidestep ideologies that do not take authority imposed from above for granted. Anarchists and other proponents of alternative rule almost by definition are seen as destructive elements in a society. Yet old time and modern thinkers on the subject might have some viable and decent ideas for future state organisation. Take Marijuana Off the DEAs Docket Quit paying the DEA to chase marijuana. We could save millions for education (or tax credits, for you republicans). We spend millions locking up Americans for using marijuana. Currently about 30 percent of all SPAM comes from China. But before you get all happy and break out the champagne you must realize that what they are doing has nothing to do with helping us. Government Overregulation of Broadcast Content Could Backfire Rush is right! The government's stepped up bid to regulate broadcast television content is indeed frightening. Clearing Land Mine Fields from the Air You know we have sent many, many army tanks with protruded devices used for minesweeping to the Middle East from the Logistics Base in our country. They are assigned to removing the left over land mines of past wars. Each year hundreds of thousands lose their lives and limbs to these past war buried relics. The army tanks which remove these devices have not really been redesigned since the second WW, hardly any real improvements in their designs. But it has occurred to me that you can sweep these mines from the air if you want. Here is how it might be done; first, a powerful helicopter drags flat plates of steel along the ground with skids, in front of that is heavy chains dragging approximately 20 yards connected to each other like the kind your used to level fields and scrap away dirt clods and then the chains of smaller size actually in the air attached to cables attached to the helicopter about 50ft AGL.
