I purchased a Canon EOS Digital Rebel kit in October 2003 The kit includes a Canon EFS 18-55mm F 3.5-5.6 lens, which was designed and only works with the Digital Rebel.
I already owned a Canon Ultrasonic EF 28-80mm F3 .5-5.6 which I used with my EOS Elan IIe
According to Canon the consumer digital cameras, (D30, D60, 10D, Digital Rebel) have a 1.6 "Magnifier" due to the fact that the camera's imaging area is not the same size as 35mm film. So, this makes the lenses act as a 29-88 and a 45-128
The reason for this test is that the 28-80 usm is a very good lens, it is fast and quiet, and I hoped to use it as my general all around lens, so I wanted to see how they compared.
The pictures were not taken with proper exposure or composition in mind, the only goal was to see how much of the van would be captured at the various lens settings. There was no processing except to reduce the overall size to make it quicker to load for those with slow net connections. In this set, the top picture was taken with the kit 18-55 lens set at 18mm , the widest setting. The bottom picture was taken with the 28-80 lens set at 28mm , the widest setting.
The top picture also shows how close the viewfinder matches the output photo. I set the tripod at a distance that made the van bumpers touch both sides of the viewfinder.
It seems slightly off center, but that is probably human error.
